Dorms now allow pet fish University Housing has updated its “no-pet” policy and will now allow students living on campus to keep fish in their dorm rooms. The new policy specifies that fish tanks must be 10 gallons or less in size and that the owner must assume sole responsibility for the fish and tank. The policy took effect Jan. 12. NKU to celebrate Homecoming Homecoming events will begin on campus Jan. 25 and end Jan. 31. The week will celebrate the history and the spirit of Northern Kentucky University with events such as a talent show, trivia show, chili cook-off and the crowning of a homecoming court. The festivities will end with the homecoming games of the Norse men’s and women’s basketball teams against Bellarmine on Jan. 31. Contact the Office of Student Life at 572-6514 for more information.
New student center to officially open The Office of Student Life will hold a grand opening of the new Student Involvement Center Jan. 21 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The center features computer workstations, a lounge area, television, fax machine and space for student organizations to meet. It is located in the University Center Suite 10. The grand opening is open to all students, faculty and staff.
NKU to hold semester’s first blood drive Hoxworth Blood Center will be on campus Thurs., Jan. 22 for the first blood drive of the semester. The drive will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom.
AAC holds annual book drive The Association of African Charities is now accepting donations of books, pens, pencils and other school-related materials as part of its annual Spring Book Drive. The proceeds will be sent to African schoolchildren who are often too poor to purchase these items. Students, faculty and staff can donate items by placing them in designated boxes around campus.
Local company uses student feedback Students participated in a Jan. 20 research study by Procter and Gamble, based in Cincinnati, Ohio, to gain feedback on its new online selection process. Students “applied” for positions at the company via its online application process, and their reactions to the process were monitored in order to determine whether it was effective. Students were compensated for their time.
