Fall is supposed to be here, but you wouldn’t know it yet judging by the 90-degree forecasts for the first week of October. Regardless of the weather, there’s always time to chill out on the couch and watch some TV; and, in keeping with the Halloween season, there’s a killer slate of new, original content and classic slasher movies coming your way this month on streaming.

The Norse opened up home conference play with a 1-0 loss to the UIC flames. The Norse are now 4-5 on the season and 1-1 in the conference. The Flames advance to 6-3-1 and to 2-0 in the conference.

Senior musical theatre major Kali Marsh had everything figured out for post-graduation life. She had plans for the Disney College Program, moving to New York City and pursuing a career on Broadway. But after finding a home in Cincinnati-based pop rock band Rosewood Coast, Marsh’s goals have shifted.

For many NKU students, going to the Applebee’s location just outside of campus every Wednesday for karaoke nights is a tradition.  So when the popular restaurant chain announced this past Wednesday that karaoke nights were no more, several students took to Twitter to criticize the decision. Some went as far as starting a #boycottapplebees hashtag. Then, a Mac’s Pizza Pub employee announced on Twitter that Mac’s would be hosting its own karaoke nights from now on.

“Freaky Friday,” a 2003 film starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan about a mother and daughter whose bodies are magically switched, is a memorable Disney live-action film of the current generation’s earlier years. Now, NKU’s School of the Arts will be one of the first programs in the region to perform the new musical adaptation.

Forty years before the Civil War in New York City, William Henry Brown made the controversial decision to have his African-American theatre company put on a performance of Shakespeare’s “Richard III” at the same time as the rival Park Theatre. Opening on Sept. 26, the School of the Arts’ theatre department will be performing “The African Company Presents Richard III,” a dramatization of this historical event.

With suicide being the second largest leading cause of death for those age 15 to 24, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and LGBTQ+ students being about five times more likely to attempt suicide compared to their non-LGBTQ+ peers, suicide prevention awareness month and its importance to the LGBTQ+ community is more crucial than ever.
