Fantasy Football: Week four

Week four ended with the highly anticipated NFC North battle between the Vikings and the Packers Monday Night. Brett Favre's Minnesota Vikings defeated the Green Bay Packers 30 to 23. Week four also featured the 72nd installment of the Battle of Ohio. The game ended in dramatic fashion as the Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Cleveland Browns on a last-second field goal as time expired in overtime.'

It happens every semester: an outrageously-dressed person shows up in front of the University Center and begins spouting preachings that are almost always debatable. Some students gather around him (I have never once seen a female speaker) to listen and argue the validity of what the speaker has to say, and things get dangerously close to getting out of hand.

Women’s soccer gets second win

The Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team lit the nets on fire in their 9-0 victory over Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Illinois-Springfield (2-9, 0-9 in the GLVC) on Oct. 4 in Springfield, Ill.

The Norse (9-2, 6-2 in the GLVC) got a three goal effort from junior forward Kendall Day against the Prairie Stars. Sophomore midfielder Kristi Hofmeyer contributed two goals and four other players accounted for one goal a piece on the day.

One-on-one with Steven Beattie

Steven Beattie, a native of Skerries, Ireland, has amassed 42 career goals according to the NKU Athletics Web site. Now, he's just five goals shy of surpassing Chad Scott's 46 career goal record.

Beattie has also garnered accolades such as the Ron Lenz National Player of the Year, First Team National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Adidas All-American and the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year, just to name a few.

Although students voted to approve a new Student Government Association (SGA) constitution in the September special election, the failure to implement those changes has prompted the organization to form a subcommittee for 'Constitutional implementation and transition,' according to the minutes of the Sept. 28 meeting.

Senator Amy VonHandorf announced the formation of the committee during her Student Rights Committee report. 433 students voted in favor of the constitutional changes, while only 58 voted against.

Communication Studies hits the cloud

With the stink Northern Kentucky University students raise about their General Education Requirements (GER), you could knock a buzzard off a shit wagon.

'They suck. They're a waste of time, and especially when you could be studying for your major,' Oscar Ochieng, an Accounting major, said. 'Then it ends up that you can't graduate and you have to waste another semester on Gen. Eds.'

Not a smoker’s delight

Either way, this is how Northern Kentucky University's smoking policy is supposed to be handled. Students, professors - anyone - can ask a smoker to move from a non-designated smoking area to a designated area for smokers to puff away at their cigarette.

So far, some people on campus say it's not working.
