Norse blast Valpo to advance to Horizon semifinals

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin — Named to the Horizon League all-freshman team this week, NKU’s Molly Glick had a career-high 18 points Friday as the Norse defeated Valparaiso 76-53 in the Horizon League tournament quarterfinals.

Northern Kentucky (19-12) advances to play the host school and top seed Green Bay 4 p.m. ET Saturday in the Horizon League semifinals. Green Bay won the regular season title for the 18th year in a row. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

NKU followed up a solid first quarter with a strong second quarter.

The Norse outscored Valpo 19-11 in the opening quarter. They shot 50 percent in the quarter.

Not to be outdone, NKU shot 50 percent in the second quarter. The Norse ended the second on a 14-2 run to take a 40-19 lead to halftime.

Valpo never threatened in the second half, as the Norse led by as many as 28 points in the third quarter. NKU shot 55.6 percent in the third quarter to put the game away.

NKU forced 18 Valparaiso turnovers which led to 20 points. Meanwhile, Valpo scored no points off of seven NKU turnovers.

In addition to Glick’s 18 points, Kasey Uetrecht also scored 18 points for the Norse. Molly Franson added 11.

NKU and Green Bay met twice in the regular season. Green Bay defeated NKU 81-73 at BB&T Arena Jan. 21, then beat the Norse 52-40 Feb. 27 at the Kress Events Center.
