GALLERY: Late Addai goal helps NKU salvage 2-2 draw

Less than three minutes from full time, it appeared the men’s soccer team was headed to defeat Wednesday evening against Indiana University, Purdue University at Indianapolis.

However, Yaw Addai would find the back of the net in the 88th minute, helping NKU salvage a 2-2 draw at NKU Soccer Stadium.

After blasting an initial shot that was saved, Addai was able to settle the ball down and blast the rebound past Jaguar keeper Josh Gray.

It appeared momentarily that the Norse had the game-winner in the first 10-minute overtime period. However, Gray and his teammates were able to keep the ball from crossing the goal line.

Neither team would score in the two overtime periods, and the match ended in a draw.

IUPUI (1-8-6) scored against the run of play to take an early 1-0 lead. Emmanuel Usen scored in the 33rd minute, assisted by Jared O’Dell.

NKU (8-4-4) would equalize in the 40th minute when Daniel Lahav scored. Calvin Murphy picked up the helper. It was 1-1 at halftime.

O’Dell would get a goal of his own in the 57th minute to put the Jaguars ahead 2-1. It remained that way until Addai leveled the match in the dying moments of regulation.

Toby Frohlich got the start in net for NKU, recording two saves. AJ Fleak came on at the break and picked up one save.

The Norse outshot IUPUI 23-15, including 8-5 in shots on goal. That included a 12-3 margin in the first half that the Norse dominated.

A rare weekend off awaits the Norse. They return to action with another non-league matchup 7 p.m. Tuesday at Evansville. After tangling with the Aces, the regular season closes 7 p.m. Nov. 6 at Milwaukee.
