NKU Instagram Photo Competition
2013 Instagram Photo Contest Winners
NKU students, faculty and staff were challenged to use Instagram to capture photos that encompassed a them of “Something Old, Something New: Smartphones change the picture of journalism.” The theme was a reminder although the technology of photojournalism is changing rapidly, the values and mission of journalism are still fundamental. It was up to the participants to interpret and decide how to reflect that theme in the photos.
The photos were judged by five experts:
Dave Francois – Director of mobile operations and strategy for the E.W. Scripps Company
Kody Kahle – Photo editor for The Northerner
Chip Mahaney – Senior director of local operations for The E.W. Scripps Company’s digital division
Cara Owsley – Staff photojournalist for The Cincinnati Enquirer
David Stephenson – Photojournalism adviser for the University of Kentucky’s student newspaper, the Kentucky Kernel
Jonathon Palmer – A Central Kentucky visual photographer and freelance photographer
