Kaseke reacts to his victory in the special fall election. Kaseke faced removal, but the impeachment charges against him were voted down.

Two weeks, two impeachments. The Northern Kentucky University Student Government Association had its second impeachment hearing Dec. 7. This time it was SGA President Keith Kaseke who faced impeachment charges on the grounds he violated SGA procedure and the SGA Constitution.

Last week was the impeachment of former Vice President Dennis Chaney, which passed and resulted in his removal from office.

Kaseke thinks his impeachment, which was voted down 12-6, was a retaliation for the impeachment of Dennis Chaney. He said it was the same people who voted against Chaney’s impeachment. Overall, though, he is glad with how his impeachment turned out.

"I think it’s a good thing,” Kaseke said. “Whenever students are not happy they need to speak out.”

SGA Senator Nicholas Georgescu brought the impeachment to SGA in The Articles of Impeachment. The Articles said Kaseke “has repeatedly violated the Constitution, his oath, and the trust of the faculty and students; discredited SGA; shown repeated disregard for the SGA standing rules of order; and violated and neglected his duties as prescribed by: Article IV, section 1, A, 2, e: [which states the president]”Shall enforce the provisions of the Constitution, the Standing Rules of Order, mandates of the Student Senate, decisions of the Judicial Council, and referendum of the Student Body.”

The Articles said Kaseke did numerous things wrong, including the way he brought impeachment charges against Chaney.

“Kaseke discredited SGA when he produced defamatory and libelous material for the impeachment of Dennis Chaney under allegation five of The Articles of Impeachment ‘I do not care what you (SGA President) or the Deans think but I am going to Faculty Senate,’” The Articles said. “This conversation never included that statement and there is audio recording of the entire conversation, made in pursuance of KRS 526.010.”

The Articles also said Kaseke is either ignorant or dishonest in his actions as a Student Regent, on the Board of Regents.

“Kaseke discredited SGA when he was asked the question from Senator Georgescu, on Nov 30, inquiring if Keith Kaseke amended the impeachment and removal process article of the Constitution on Nov 11,” The Articles said. “He replied no but had in fact changed the impeachment timeline for appeals in the SGA Constitution. Either he is dishonest or grossly ignorant of his own actions as Student Regent.”

Georgecu said that when Chaney got impeached it was all about how Chaney broke the rules, but Kaseke himself has broken the rules and acted poorly.

“That kind of behavior you wouldn’t expect out of an SGA president,” Georgescu said.

Since the impeachment didn’t pass, Kaseke will stay in office. However, appeals can be filed. SGA will resume meeting in the Spring 2010 semester on Mondays at 3:30 p.m. in Student Union room 104. The first meeting will be Jan.12.

Your name... it is a microcosm of national and international issues with transparency, fraud, corruption in government. Why are citizens skeptical/cynical about public affairs and government? This episode has all the makings of corruption on a small scale where the stakes are so low and where any offense is petty. I can't for the life of me believe everything that was said or written on both sides, but I know when justice and equity are thrown out the window in favor of skullduggery and avarice.

Kaseke and bunch engaged in serious manipulation of a majority of the senate, and a majority of Judical Council let their biases against an unpopular individual, Dennis Chaney, get in the way of a proactive solution to this problem.

Who really cares about all this BS anyway? It's SGA - not the UN.

Wait a minute Virgil, you're Greek.
It appeared the deck was stacked against Dennis from the inner-circle. The justice system, whatever you want to call it, seemed pretty biased. To my understanding, there was one exception as the vote to remove Dennis was
4-1. However, the power struggle you reference was petty and spun out of control. If this is the way our youth resolve disputes, then God help the future of this once great country.

In response to the concerned, informed student: technically, it was an impeachment hearing. A removal hearing is of what you're thinking. You have an impeachment hearing, the senate votes you impeached unless you're Greek, and then you have the removal hearing, and J-council removes you from office regardless of guilt, and whether or not you were given due process. At least, that's what we've been seeing so far.

That said, from my perspective is that it was a dispute between Dennis and Kaseke. I saw it a lot, Dennis thought Keith did too little; Keith thought Dennis overstepped his authority. This power struggle resulted in Dennis getting impeached because Keith had more weight he could throw around being higher up on the chain. It's unfortunate the second impeachment was voted down.

And, I agree with (yes you) Ryan P insomuch as it seems like 9 times out of 10 the cards are stacked against Dennis.

Chaney needs to just grow up and accept that he no longer is a part of SGA. As for his followers, Georgescu, Henry, Gabriella, and Jude, you also need to grow up and realize that Chaney is using you for his personal gain. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE PEOPLE! I know him real well and his ego is bigger than Mt. Everest and "he is never wrong" about anything! If you people really care about your school and about SGA then work with them to accomplish things for the students instead of spending weeks and weeks trying to plot removal of a president who has now gained the respect of all the people who don't like Chaney and believe me, there are tons of people who don't like Chaney.

As for Kaseke, you also need to grow up and take charge. Don't worry about what people think about you but focus on what is right for the students. Ignore Chaney and his people because now you have majority of the Senate supporting you and your efforts.

Chaney, you break the law everyday with all those substances you consume (and you wanna crack down on people for policy violations), you were arrested for disorderly conduct, you were impeached and then removed from office, you need to re-evaluate your life and ask yourself why it is you and your followers are the only ones who think they are always correct! Oh, and I think I speak for all when I say even on Kaseke's worst day, you will NEVER EVER be half the leader he is.

Internal squabbles like this just prove to the average student that SGA is more focused on itself than on helping its fellow students. SGA must rise above this sort of dirty-laundry airing and become the advocate that it is supposed to be. ASGA can teach your SGA how to move past the petty bickering. See www.asgaonline.com

Just to clarify the mistake made in the first paragraph, the following line: "The Northern Kentucky University Student Government Association had its second impeachment hearing Dec. 7. " is inaccurate. The impeachment of Keith Kaseke was defeated by the Senate before an impeachment hearing could be held. The impeachment hearing only occurs if the Senate approves the Articles of Impeachment, thus sending the question of the pending removal from office to the Judicial Council. I understand the importance of a diligent media to disseminate information to the masses, but if we are going to set the horns praising Republicanism to work, then please for the sake of all, inform the masses of the proper procedures regarding impeachment.

"This incident has shown that our youth truly do follow the example of their elders." ~ True, and not only follow the example of current generations, but follow corrupt practices in Developing nations around the globe. trumped up allegations of voter intimidation during the Spring Election, alleged misrepresentation of SGA, etc. Aggressively challenging established authority is a crime punishable by imprisonment and or death in many Developing countries around the world.

The last time I checked, the U.S. is a Republic of laws and not of men, so let's live up to it. I challenge this generation to uphold this principle prior generations fought so hard to defend in wars, civil unrest, protests and through the pen.

This incident has shown that our youth truely do follow the example of thier elders. With all the corruption in the state and federal governments, it is of little wonder that corruption has pervaded even our student government. Upon reading about the VP's impeachment, it was apparent that rules of protocol had been violated and that someone was out to get him. It was applaudable that someone attempt to hold the President to these same standards and same punishment that he held the VP to. It is a grave mistake that the senate body has been so easily decieved by nothing more than a future snake in the grass. SGA needs to pick itself up out of the pool of apathy that they are languishing in and the only way that can happen is if new leadership is instituted and the senate remembers why they are there in the first place-to speak for the student body.

Veritas speaks the truth people!
Put them (Kaseke, Hawks, Schwartz, Miller) in their place by ignoring them.
Remember, they do do exist if we do not give them a forum to practice their avarice and corruption.

What a bunch of self-important losers... the kind of folks who will bring fraud and corruption to any future endeavor. Perhaps they'll be involved in the next Enron, Worldcom, or Tyco. Or, maybe they'll go into public fraud and corruption and be the next Rod Blagojevich; or become a lobbyist like Jack Abramoff.
Our country is better off if they end up where they deserve... pumping gas or flipping burgers - where their selfishness and stupidity won't hurt millions of innocent people.

How many typos are usually allowed in one article?

Just curious.

So the die is cast...anyone in SGA can be impeached and face removal from office. What is going on guys?

Everyone involved can sure use this upcoming break to hit the reset button. Dennis Chaney and Keith Kaseke had a personal beef that spirialed out of control and that influenced their working relationship. There was plenty of fault to go around, but you two should have put your interests and egos aside and negotiated a truce long before the Chaney Impeachment. This could have been avoided...
Please come together for the common good of the students in the new year. Please hold biases at the door, its not worth it. Go gently, but stand firm when needed. Let us move forward together and work cooperatively.
