Career Services host resume and cover letter workshop

Career services will be hosting a Resume and Cover Letter Workshop at 4 p.m. January 25 in University Center 135.

Jennifer Richmond, a career adviser, will present the attendees with basic information on the components of resumes that tend to be successful during the job hunt.

She said the workshop is a part of their regularly scheduled workshops, which can be found on Career Services page under the tab, “Events & Important Dates”.

Career services provides information on career planning and management including the development of resumes and cover letters, job source resources, co-ops and internships, interviewing skills, career expos, etc.

Richmond said she hopes students will come out of the workshop understanding how to apply general information of resumes to create customized documents that will land them interviews in the future.

“I will go through and talk about the components of a resume…we talk about formatting, layout, strategies for certain job searches such as online vs. career fairs and we will also discuss how to formulate a cover letter,” Richmond said.

Richmond also said she wants students to come to Career Services after the workshop to get their resumes and cover letters reviewed.

“Obviously, I can’t speak one-on-one with each student that attends the workshop so we encourage students to take advantage of the walk-in hours where they can get further help,” Richmond said.

Career Services holds walk-in hours on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30-4 p.m. and Thursday from 3-4:45 p.m. in University Center 225. Richmond explained that these hours are great for resume reviews.
