NKU’s Callahan Hall, formerly Lakeside Place Nursing Home, is a residence hall with a history.

Each year around Halloween, the residence hall is transformed to fit the the legend of the old nursing home.  The legend claims an evil nurse named Millie was murdered in the building by her patients.

This year’s ninth annual haunted house, hosted by the Association of Campus Residents will take place Saturday in Callahan Hall from 7-11 p.m.

Dallas Simpson, vice president of ACR, said apporoximately 80 students are volunteering this year to bring the story to life.

“We always tell the backstory of the basement which entails Millie, and how Callahan used to be a nursing home,” Simpson said. “So we base a story off of what Callahan used to be.”

Simpson, a sophomore marketing major, said innovation paid off when he was organizing volunteers. In addition to using a Facebook page, he put a QR code on the flyers so students could simply scan with their smartphone.

He said he used last year’s haunted house as a model to make all of the logistics happen, and he expects that this year’s event will be just as successful.

“It’s fun for NKU because it’s different,” Simpson said. “It takes advantage of the holidays that are coming up, so it gives NKU a different type of vibe,” Simpson said. “This is important for NKU because it builds community, just seeing people coming together and having fun with this program is something nice to see.”
